Travelling out of Belfast following the signage, you will come to a large roundabout where the route becomes a two-lane 'A' category road. You can access the White House and Hazelbank from here. Whiteabbey is part of Newtownabbey which covers the old villages of Carmoney, Glengormley, Jordanstown, Monkstown, Whitehouse, Whitewell and Whiteabbey. The name derives from a 12th-century abbey where the monks wore white habits and were known as the White Canons. Belonging to the 'Order of Canons Regular of Prémontré 'founded by Saint Norbert at Prémontré (Picardy) in 1120. The Norbertine Order was unique and regarded women and men as equals, women were known as canonesses.
